Sectional rehearsals

As well as our twice monthly full orchestra rehearsals, we also hold sectional rehearsals.  These are generally about 4 per section per term.

String Sectionals are lead by our Musical Director, Sara Young.

Meet our happy string players!

We do need more violins, violas and another double bass!

Can you help us fill our empty seats, or do you know someone who could help?

We can offer:

  • Expert help from our Musical Director, Sara Young, who is a strings specialist too.

  • We have Violin parts at 3 levels.

  • Plenty of support and encouragement from our friendly members.

  • There are even a couple of basic violins available to borrow if yours is missing,  to try playing in our orchestra.

Wind Sectionals (for woodwind and brass) are lead by our Principal Deputy Conductor, Richard Cross

Meet our happy woodwind players!

We would like more French horns, a tuba, another bassoon, oboe and more brass in general

Can you help us fill our empty seats, or do you know someone who could help?

We can offer:

  • Expert help from our Musical Director, Sara Young and, especially for wind sectionals, our Principal Guest Conductor, Richard Cross, who is a wind specialist.

  • We do our very best to find suitable parts for all orchestral instruments/clefs and keys.

  • Plenty of support and encouragement from our friendly members.

Are you a 'returner, rusty or polished' or a 'learner'?

If you are considering taking the step of joining an orchestra, and you play an orchestral instrument, we will help in any way we can.  Don't delay, do get in touch via our contact form.

Although  our previously 'rusty'  and 'learner' members have now become more proficient, everyone can remember what it's like to take the step of joining a new orchestra, whether as a returner or a learner.  You will find friendly support.

As far as possible we do try to source music for everyone but if yours still looks a little tricky, try the first note in the bar approach to get started.  We also have a conductor's baton to watch - every down beat is the start of a new bar.

If you would like to find out more please get in touch  via the contact form.
