Ensembles
From time to time the North Downs Community Orchestra hosts various small groups within our membership. Woodwind and strings ensembles materialise from time to time, along with small general ensembles, and all members are encouraged to participate in and initiate smaller playing groups as they wish.

In the past (pre-pandemic), an ensemble has played at various schools in the area. All are welcome to play in a general ensemble and there is sometimes and unusual selection of instruments!

There is currently a flute group and there are plans to form a general ensemble in the summer of 2023 to play for various organisations.
The Percussion Project
The Percussion Project started as an initiative to develop our orchestral percussion section. With the help of a grant from the Hazelwood School Community Fund, we put on some introductory opportunities for local adults in the hopes of finding a few people who want to join our orchestra or band as a percussionist.

Since then, our percussionists have made huge strides in progress as they have each applied enormous amounts of effort to try to address all the requirements of the orchestral sheet music put in front of them! We have the added support and tutelage of Richard J. Scarff, who currently teaches percussion, drumkit, and piano at Bennett Memorial School Tunbridge Wells and Bronte School in Gravesend.

For more information about past events and activities from our percussion project, take a look at our blogposts.
