The same is true for any group of orchestral instruments, including us.
On Tuesday 18th July the Douglas Brunton Centre in Caterham held its well attended Annual General Meeting. The Douglas Brunton Centre is a day centre for older people that includes a hairdresser, art club, exercise classes and many more exciting activities.
After the conclusion of business, members of the North Downs Community Orchestra, led from the violin by their conductor Shona Fenion, were delighted to entertain the attendees with a selection of their repertoire. They played a selection of well known classics and pieces from films. A professional harpist, Margaret Watson, played a medley of toe tapping Glenn Miller hits. In Radetsky March the audience accompanied the orchestra with shakers and bells. Also in Land of Hope And Glory the audience raised their voices in song bringing the performance to a rousing finale. Stella, the Centre manager, commented that “It was fantastic to hear the day centre attendees joining in.”
The Orchestra can next be heard providing free lunch-time entertainment at the annual Godstone Village Fete and Donkey Derby, at 12:00 on Monday 28th August.
The Orchestra welcomes new members, who play orchestral instruments, whatever their experience and ability. They will be holding an open rehearsal on Wednesday 13th September. For further details, please get in touch.
