North Downs Community Orchestra records performance for Last Night of the Proms

Members of North Downs Community Orchestra and North Downs Band will be part of the BBC’s famous Last Night of the Proms celebrations.

The musicians met at Godstone Scout Hut on August 17, and recorded a performance for the BBC’s first ever online ‘virtual’ orchestra, which will be turned into a film by the BBC and shown as part of the Last Night of the Proms celebrations.

The session in Godstone, Surrey, was part of the BBC’s nationwide Get Playing campaign, which encourages everyone, from lapsed players who want to dust off their instruments and brush up their skills to enthusiastic amateurs who play regularly.

North Downs Community Orchestra founding conductor, Shona Fenion, led the performance skillfully bringing the Band and Orchestra together and masterfully creating a wonderful sound.

Guest conductors Richard Cross (Professional Trombonist) and Dr Brian Wilshere (Croydon Orchestral Ensemble) plus Jackey Birch from NDCO, all made a wonderful conducting contributions that led to this successful recording. We pass our thanks onto them and to our Founding Conductor, Shona Fenion.
